James M Harvey MM MMR (1948 -)                                    

James Harvey is a graduate of Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education trumpet and tuba (1970) and holds a Master of Music, Brass Instruments (1971) in horn, trombone and tuba from the Ithaca College School of Music, Ithaca New York, with subsequent Master of Music Research (2017) from Griffith University Queensland Conservatorium (GUQC) in Brisbane Australia. Mr. Harveys’ MMR thesis: Elder Music, Instrumental Music Performance and Affirmative Aging is an exploration of mature musicking - following a 24-year classical music hiatus – in returning to an accomplished tuba performance practice. James is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at Griffith University Creative Arts Research Institute (CARI) Queensland Conservatorium Research Centre (QCRC) realizing an artistic hypothesis: Elucidating the Sound of It - A Performance Philosophy of Contrabass Tuba in Symphonic Wind Ensembles. James is a presenter/lecturer in solo, chamber and symphonic music - artistic creative process philosophy mentor/catalyst - who performs regularly as principal tuba with the Queensland Wind Orchestra (QWO) - Lismore Symphony Orchestra (LSO) - Northern Rivers Symphony Orchestra (NRSO) and artistic director of Summerland Brass.
